Letter from the Owner – Joan Wurst

Before Everwind’s winter series starts there is an issue I need to address. It is an issue that is extremely important for all involved and all need to be aware of it so please share this information with others.  It pertains to the restrooms and the use of them.

I have been holding events at this arena for over 35 years.  There were many years when I had a different event each weekend of the month, year around.  During all of those years the restrooms have been used without ever having an incident with either of them.  I’ve held clinics and week-long camps.  Perhaps on a few occasions a toilet had to be plunged to eliminate a clog – nothing more.

In the past year and especially the last months of the last winter series, the restrooms have been abused.  There is no other term for it.  There were repeated times the toilets in the ladies’ room were plugged beyond my ability to fix.  The mess that was left in them for me to clean was disgusting.

When the last barrel race of the current season was over, there was not a toilet in the indoor arena functional!  I spent a lot of time over a couple of weeks and finally got one of the toilets in the ladies’ room opened up and working.   I could not get any other toilets useable.  I had to turn to outside help.  Do I have to start charging a rest room fee?

The men’s room toilet had to be taken off it’s base and searched for the cause of its malfunction.  It was discovered that a toilet paper cardboard holder had been flushed down the toilet and completely jammed it up!  Also in the men’s room, someone was inside the shower I had cleaned and had torn the curtain about 1/3 of the way down.  On top of that, someone put some serious pressure on the water connection on the urinal and broke it off!  That is unusable until I can get that fixed.  This sounds like vandalism to me!

To say this is distressing would be an understatement.  It says nothing good for the people using these privileges.  Either adults have no respect for me and my property or adults are letting their children run wild and are unaware of the damage they are doing.  Either way, it is a situation that cannot continue.

I have no choice but to do something about this problem.  I cannot continue to deal with it and I shouldn’t have to.

I implore all visitors to be aware of this problem and do their part to eliminate it.  If you have children, please be aware of where they are and what they are doing.  (We have asked this before, but I’m not sure anyone paid attention to it.)  I want everyone to be aware of the fact that if this problem begins with this series, I will have to remove the privilege of the bathrooms.   There will no longer be any such facilities available here.

Each person must do their part to ensure the continued use of this convenience.  I hope you can appreciate the urgency of this need.
